Joelle Pineau, the head of Meta's AI research division, announced she will step down at the end of May after eight years with the company. In her statement, she emphasized the need to make space for new leadership amid the rapidly evolving AI landscape.
Pineau, who is also a computer science professor at McGill University, has been a proponent of Meta’s open-source approach to AI, including its Llama language model. Her departure comes ahead of the upcoming LlamaCon AI conference on April 29, and Meta has not yet announced a successor.
